BREAKING! UK Government Spied On Allies At TWO G20 Summits (Video)

Bombshell report on the Guardian today claims that the British government spied on politicians and officials who participated in two G20 summit meetings in London in 2009, according to documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and seen by the Guardian. The report alleges that the UK intelligence agencies monitored foreign politicians and officials through their computers and their phone calls. All correspondence was intercepted on the instructions of their British government hosts. Some delegates were tricked into using internet cafes which had been set up by British intelligence agencies to read their email traffic. More from the Guardian: The…

640x392_64002_254534

Jabhat Al-Nusra, a Sunni Muslim extremist rebel group trying to topple the regime of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria, declared that they are ready to fight Assad supporter Hezbollah. As the Syria’s brutal two-year war drags on and it has grown more sectarian and more likely to spill over into neighboring countries. Lebanon and Iran could be pitting Hezbollah militants against Al Qaeda-linked jihadists who have flocked to Syria from across the Muslim world. Al-Nusra, recently swore allegiance to Al Qaeda, is part of the many factions of Syrian opposition. As reported by Progressive Press on May 13, the opposition is…

Boston Marathon Bombing and the Simplicity/Complexity of Terrorism

war-on-terror

Since the Boston bombing, the media is overflowing again with the familiar lines capriciously flung on Right wing media such as:  “Muslims are a violent people. More violence is to come if we continue to let Muslims immigrate to the U.S.. Obama is a Muslim and supporting Al Qaeda and Progressives being Marxists and Socialists [they are equal in Tea Party jargon] are coddling terrorists and proposing an overgenerous immigration policy.” At this point, there is scant evidence for any conclusion on the Boston Marathon bombing. Authorities are not sure if the Boston Marathon bombing were part of a terrorist…

Toothless International Arms Trade Treaty

DSC_0006

On April 2nd 2013, The United Nations General Assembly approved the first global arms trade treaty with 154 votes in favor, 3 against and 23 abstentions. The overwhelming approval comes one week after Iran, Syria and North Korea prevented a treaty-drafting conference at U.N. headquarters from reaching the required consensus to adopt the treaty. These same countries were the sole votes against the treaty last Tuesday. The text of this treaty carries the purpose of regulating the international trade in conventional arms. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon praised the treaty as a powerful new tool in preventing grave human rights abuses and…

Arms Trade Treaty Blocked by Iran, Syria and North Korea, for Now.

On Thursday March 28th, Iran, Syria and North Korea blocked the adoption of the first international treaty to regulate the $70 billion global arms trade when diplomats from 179 countries were ready to approve the text. But there is still hope for it yet. Consensus on the text of the treaty was a rule required by the negotiating conference. This disagreement resulted in the treaty text needing to be put before the UN General Assembly for approval. It could be as early as this coming Tuesday that the UN General Assembly will take up the text, most likely in current…
