How Would You Like to Marry Your Rapist?

It is not a fictional idea, depicting the laws of an alien planet. Believe it or not, a rapist marrying his victim after the rape was seen as an appropriate option in many countries, and the idea was supported by the rape laws. From Brazil to Morocco, rapists were able to escape prison simply by saying, “I’ll marry her”. Despite the abolition of these laws in many countries, some are still in effect. Currently, Turkey’s parliament (TBMM) is reviewing a report, completed by the Commission on Divorce, to reinstate this rape law which was appealed in 2005 while the country…

Who are ISIS? What do They Want? Who is Behind Them?

On June 11th, the world woke up to the news of ISIS (The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant* -alternatively translated as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria-) taking over major cities in Iraq and advancing towards Baghdad. This was not, of course, news to the people who have been following the situation in the region since the invasion of Iraq, but for many, ISIS is the new genie in the bottle. Especially puzzling, how was this relatively small extremist group of people able to seize the second most populous city of Iraq, along with other cities and towns…

CIA has been Training the Syrian Rebels, Report Claims

Los Angeles Times reports that CIA operatives and U.S. special operations troops have been secretly training Syrian rebels with anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons in Turkey and Jordan since late last year. White House officials refused to comment on the report, saying only that the U.S. had increased its assistance to the rebellion. According to the report, the covert U.S. training at bases in Jordan and Turkey began months before President Obama approved plans to begin directly arming the opposition to Syrian President Bashar Assad. Progressive Press has revealed this information in May, after the local newspapers in Turkey claimed the…

Egypt Cuts All Ties With Syria

Speaking at a conference on the Syrian uprising in Cairo on Saturday, President Mohamed Morsi announced that Egypt will be cutting all ties with Syria. He ordered the Syrian embassies in Damascus and Cairo to be closed, and called for imposition of no-fly zone. Morsi also said Egypt will begin providing Syrian opposition forces with financial aid and support for the Lebanon-based terror group Hezbollah would end. This is a policy shift for Morsi which backed the organization against Israel in the Second Lebanon War seven years ago. Morsi said “We supported Hezbollah during Lebanon war and today we stand…

Why did USA Ambassador Aid Islamic Hard-liner Imam Escape Prosecution for Extremism?

During the Turkish delegation’s official visit to U.S.A. on May 14, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arınc made a visit to the Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen who lives in Pennsylvania since the late 1990s. Currently, there are 32 Turkish-American associations in U.S.A. which are established as secular and not religiously affiliated. According to a statement given by the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) Communications Director Hakan Dakın, no one from the delegation made a visit to any of these associations during their last visit to the U.S.A. Bombshell: Turkish Government Knew about the Reyhanli Attack Beforehand

Redhack, a Turkish hacker group analogous to U.S. Anonymous, has released a serious of cables revealing the Turkish Government’s prior knowledge of the bombing attack in the border town of Reyhanli which killed over 50 and injured hundreds of people. Reyhanli is a small town in the Hatay province of the country, residing right on Turkey’s border with Syria. The town hosts many refugee camps filled with people escaped from the bloody Civil War that has been going on in Syria for the last two years. Local population of the town insists that the camps are loaded with spies and…

Al-Nusra Say They are Ready to Fight Hezbullah in Syria

Jabhat Al-Nusra, a Sunni Muslim extremist rebel group trying to topple the regime of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria, declared that they are ready to fight Assad supporter Hezbollah. As the Syria’s brutal two-year war drags on and it has grown more sectarian and more likely to spill over into neighboring countries. Lebanon and Iran could be pitting Hezbollah militants against Al Qaeda-linked jihadists who have flocked to Syria from across the Muslim world. Al-Nusra, recently swore allegiance to Al Qaeda, is part of the many factions of Syrian opposition. As reported by Progressive Press on May 13, the opposition is…

Syria: U.S. Media Drops The Ball As They Did Just Before Iraq War

The know-it-all U.S. mainstream media are pushing a black and white narrative of an extremely complex conflict in the Middle East, again. Just as they did prior to the Iraq War, they are following the White House’s story of a “big, bad dictator, killing his own people with chemical weapons”. The reasons for this shortfall of honest reporting vary from incompetence to laziness, but there could also be a more sinister agenda: helping the U.S. government to propagate its plan to either invade or intervene in Syria. After all, Americans will always be more sympathetic to victims who are suffering…

War With Syria Signifies A War With Iran: Resolution 65

On April 17th, while the entire U.S. media was focused on the chase for Dzokhar Tsarnaev, the 2nd terrorist suspect in the Boston Marathon attacks, the Senate introduced Resolution 65, affirming that the U.S. will fully back Israel in the instance of war with Iran. The Resolution goes beyond affirming U.S. commitment in preventing a nuclear Iran. It ensures that the United States will ‘authorize the use of military force, diplomatic, military, and economic support to Israel in its defense of its territory, people, and existence.’ Meaning, the U.S. will go to war with Iran if Israel does. This resolution…

May 1st is International Worker’s Day, Here’s Why it Matters:

In case you’ve missed it, today (5/1) is International Worker’s Day, also known as May Day. In America, the biggest holiday for workers is Labor Day, which falls in September. May Day is  the international worker’s equivalent of labor day. Around the world, protests and demonstrations have shown the extent to which workers are outraged and are showing their ability to flex their collective muscle. In Istanbul, Turkey, demonstrators caused a city-wide shut down. In Greece, striking union workers shut down train and ferry services. In Jakarta, an estimated 150,000 workers marched on the capital, demanding an increase in pay and…

The Tale of Uncle Tsarnaev, CIA Chief Graham Fuller and a Turkish Islamist Who Lives in USA

What could be the connection between the Boston Marathon bombing suspects’ uncle Ruslan, an ex-CIA Fuller and a Turkish Imam named Fethullah Gulen? Turkish preacher named Fethullah Gülen has been living in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania since 1999. Despite not having an education goes beyond the 5th grade, he has several hundred educational organizations such as K–12 schools, universities, and language schools (mostly English) that have been established around the world, mainly Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkans, and including U.S.A. How did he receive his US residency status while he was ‘wanted’ by the –then- Turkish Government, is still a mystery. Now, this…

What Does the Future Hold for Syria?

The civil war in Syria continues to drag on tragically, nearing its third year. With thousands of lives lost and at least one million refugees fleeing to neighboring countries, Syria is no longer a viable country. There are common electricity outages, food shortages, half of the buildings destroyed, including many hospitals, massive dislocation of its population-internally and externally, and a civilian death toll of over 70,000, which continues to increase. One of the hardest hit cities has been Aleppo, the largest in Syria. Being a major battleground for both sides since the outset of the war, it continues to struggle…

Israel Apologizes to Turks with a Push from Obama, but Why Now?

On March 22, 2013, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu apologized to Turkish Prime Minister Erdoḡan over the killing of Turkish volunteers on the ship Mavi Marmara, who were involved in supplying humanitarian aid to Gaza on May 31, 2010. Among the volunteers who were killed, there was also a U.S. citizen, Furkan Dogan (19). Diplomatic relations between the two countries, following the incident, has been strained and limited. The apology was timed with the President Obama’s recent visit to Israel and had been planned months before the President’s visit. Just prior to Obama’s flight to Jordan, President Obama called up Erdoḡan…

Marxist-Leninist Group Behind USA Embassy Attack in Turkey

DNA tests are being conducted to confirm the identity of the suicide bomber who detonated explosives outside the U.S. Embassy in Turkey, on Friday, killing himself, an embassy security guard and injuring a visiting journalist. The injured journalist, 38-year-old Didem Tuncay is ‘not in critical condition,’ a hospital official said. DHKP-C (Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front) has been listed as a terrorist organization by European Union and the United States. It has had links with the far-left groups in Europe and also has connections with…
