Yes, Chicken Little…..

This time, the sky really is falling Shutdown 2013 is really not a budget negotiation. IT IS NOT.  You do not pass and repeal laws in the United States of America through budget negotiations. Then what is this, really?  What are the buffoons and shucksters in Congress at a stalemate over?  Well, this time, it’s about nothing short of our democratic system of self-governance, which hangs in the balance:  that would be Majority Rule by the people, through their elected representatives, as envisioned by the Founding Fathers and borne out in our Constitution.  The terms being thrown around – “economic…

Sequester On Sanity

www.nytimes.com

“Perhaps no words more accurately and succinctly illustrate the confusion about economics than “Monetary Sovereignty.” It is not a theory or a hypothesis or a philosophy. In its essence, it merely is a description of the way federal financing actually works.”  ~Rodger Malcolm Mitchell Back in 2011, the idea of “sequestration,” or the implementing of harsh spending cuts that would automatically go into effect on March 1st, was floated in an effort to force the two political parties to get together and make a deal to work towards decreasing government debt. A telling sign for many of the increasingly broken…

You May Ask Yourself, Well, How Did I Get Here? While it’s a safe bet the POTUS has uttered David Byrne’s question…

Sequester: Disaster for the National Park Service and the Local Economies

Iron_Spring_Creek

In less than a week, mandatory federal spending cuts known as “sequestering” will take place. On February 25, the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said that these cuts could have serious impacts on operations in many national parks and wildlife refuges around the United States. These parks, according to a peer-reviewed report by the National Park Service, generated $30 billion in economic activity and maintained 252,000 jobs in 2011. But, hiring of seasonal workers such as search-and-rescue teams, law enforcement officers, and maintenance staff has already been delayed in anticipation of the upcoming sequester, which would reduce the annual budget of the…
