The Debate Over Digital Photography – Part II

In Part I of The Debate over Digital Photography I asked the question, “Is digital photography true photography?” I believe I made my case strong, that yes, it is. But there is another matter to be dealt with yet on this subject, and that is dark rooms versus photo-editing software. There are many different programs out there and the most recognized name would be that of Adobe Photoshop, so much so that many people will referring to any photo-editing technique as “Photoshopping”. The Debate Over Digital Photography – Part I

Is digital photography true photography? I’ve been a professional photographer for long years. When I first converted to digital photography, I heard the debate comparing digital photography to what was referred to as traditional photography, meaning film photography. There are many different views on the subject and some people actually say digital does not look as good as film, and others go so far to claim digital photography is cheating to get a good photograph, and act as though you are not a real photographer if you use digital techniques. How We Shape Technology…Or Does Technology Shape Us?

Human Rights activists are able to use Google Earth’s free satellite imagery to identify new North Korean prison camps. Further using technology for good, DigitalGlobe Inc is the source of some of Google Earth’s satellite images. DigitalGlobe also provides imagery and analysis pro bono to humanitarian organizations as well as The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea. Google Earth Engine technology monitors Amazon deforestation and other tropical countries, helping the Surui tribe map and preserve their culture and forest, and provides other environmental and human rights outreach. Around the world social media has an impact in uprisings and revolutions. Especially in restricted countries with repressive regimes social media…

Often, they are used as propaganda to evoke strong feelings, document a story, provide a snapshot into a person’s life, or perhaps capture a memory of a graduation or a wedding. I have taken many different photographs, ranging from wildlife to portraits; from fine art to journalistic. As a photographer, I have ultimate control of what this photograph will become. I choose what to focus on, such as the angle and zoom of the shot. Plus I might just take over a dozen different shots of the same object. Each shot will have…
