US Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has recently turned down an advisory position to Ukraine’s President Poroshenko, due to the US constitution’s prohibition of such a thing. In a written statement posted on his senate webpage, the senator wrote, “I am deeply proud to be a friend to Ukraine in their fight against Vladimir Putin’s dismemberment of a sovereign nation.” After reading this statement, one feels the urge to remind the Senator that Iraq, Libya and Syria were also ‘sovereign’ nations, once.
