Islamisation and Kurdification of Indigenous People of Iraq

Assyrians are the indigenous people of what is known today as Iraq; they belong to the historical land of Assyria, in the north of modern Iraq. Their state fell to the Persian Medes and the Chaldees in 612 BC. Today, Assyrians are distinct in their identity which still survives and is practiced in cultural forms of language and traditions. Their language is “Modern Assyrian” (Akkadian with Aramaic accent influence), sometimes called “Syriac” liturgically. They were the first nation to embrace Christianity in Iraq as is cited in the First Epistle of Peter: 5-13, and belong to several churches which, in…

Who are ISIS? What do They Want? Who is Behind Them?

On June 11th, the world woke up to the news of ISIS (The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant* -alternatively translated as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria-) taking over major cities in Iraq and advancing towards Baghdad. This was not, of course, news to the people who have been following the situation in the region since the invasion of Iraq, but for many, ISIS is the new genie in the bottle. Especially puzzling, how was this relatively small extremist group of people able to seize the second most populous city of Iraq, along with other cities and towns…

LIARS & TIGERS & BULL***T, OH MY: THE TROUBLE WITH SYRIA IS….

“……there’s always a belief, a want, a need to believe that when there’s a problem in the world, there is an ‘America’ button we can press to solve it”.  – Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) Disclosure: this will meander. Let me preface with a little “I’m a progressive” and a lot of “I support the President” with a dash of “most of the time” sprinkled with some “no, I don’t think it’s okay to have innocents gassed by a madman” and just a hint of “……however” – or something like that. I was one of those insane Obama groupies in 2008…

Syrian Opposition Forces are Terrorists, Barzani Says

According to a new report on Alsumaria TV, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki  and Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s president Massoud Barzani both confirmed that the weapons given to Syrian opposition groups end up in Al Qaida’s hands and are being used in Al Qaeda’s activities inside Iraq. Speaking at a press conference held on July 7, together with Iraq’s Kurdistan Region’s president Massoud Barzani, Al Maliki added, “We looked into the Syrian crisis which is the cause of the Syrian people and not that of other countries. The weapons certain countries are providing to the radical Syrian opposition; especially that…

British Millionaire Who Sold Iraq Fake Bomb Detectors Found Guilty

British businessman, James McCormick, who sold golf ball finders as bomb detectors to countries at war where thousands of people were dying and injured by explosives, has been found guilty of fraud in a British court on April 24. McCormick, 57, reportedly made an estimated 50 million pounds ($76 million) from the sales of golf ball finders worth $20 for up to $40,000 each. Experts said the devices lacked “any grounding in science” and were “completely ineffectual as a piece of detection equipment.” A former policeman and salesman, McCormick, sold the devices to military and police forces around the world,…

The Real “Weapon of Mass Destruction”: Unregulated Capitalism

Last week’s news was  dominated by the story of the bombings at the Boston marathon, followed by the manhunt for the brothers who are suspected to have perpetrated those horrific acts. The attacks killed 3 and injured over 160. The manhunt caused the shutdown of the entire city of Boston for one day. It seemed as if the entire nation was shaken and captivated by this story. Unfortunately, the carnage and destruction of the Boston attacks was not the worst thing to happen in America last week. By sheer numbers and destruction, the Boston attacks pale in comparison to the…

Poisoned US Soldiers, Secretary of the Army and KBR

In November, 2012, an Oregon jury found Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR), the military’s largest contractor, guilty of poisoning a dozen of US soldiers who were stationed at the Qarmat Ali water treatment center in Iraq, after the 2003 invasion. The court ordered the company to pay $85 million in damages. Jurors found KBR knew the presence and the toxicity of the chemical that poisoned the soldiers. According to a new report in Huffington Post, KBR has requested US Army to sign an indemnity agreement, protecting KBR from any potential legal liability, as part of its contract to rebuild Iraq…
