Ten Reasons Why You Should not Support the NRA
1. The NRA is a terrorist’s best friend. Technology is making it increasingly possible to manufacture handguns made primarily of plastic and other non-metal materials which cannot be discovered by metal detectors. This gun would be a terrorist’s dream but a nightmare for airport security. In the 1980s Ronald Reagan’s Attorney General proposed a ban on the manufacture of plastic guns, but the NRA opposed this legislation and it was withdrawn. Over the years, similar attempts to prohibit the manufacture of plastic guns have been killed by the NRA. Of course, no law-abiding person needs a handgun that can evade…
Do Some U.S. Senators Support Genocide?
A first ever comprehensive international Arms Trade Treaty was approved by UN on April 3rd, 2013. The treaty seeks to regulate the $70 billion (46.2 billion pounds) business in conventional arms and keep weapons out of the hands of human rights abusers. If the treaty is signed by President Obama, government agencies would review it before the administration decides whether to seek ratification by the Senate. The Arms Trade Treaty is intended to prevent brutal dictators from acquiring conventional weapons including tanks, missiles, warships, artillery, and combat aircraft which they can use on their own people to commit genocide. Passage…
Eyewitness Accounts from Meiktila Massacre
(From Assed Baig, Independent U.K. Reporter, on the ground in Burma.) Reports of what actually took place in the Central Myanmar town of Meiktila are still emerging. IDPs are beginning to speak out and tell the world of what they witnessed with their own eyes. “They beat them in front of me. I was watching. I can still see it.” Noor Bi, is crying as she describes the moment when she saw her husband and brother murdered in front of her eyes as she fled Meiktila. The mob out numbered the police and they were unable to protect the Muslim…
“Bin Laden of Buddhism” Backpedals on Statements
In what many are describing as a public relations ploy, radical monk Wirathu, the self described “Bin Laden of Buddhism,” has denied claims that his radical, often violent rhetoric was a condemnation of Muslims. In a statement to AFP (Agence France-Presse), the 45 year old monk went on to say that the “969” campaign, for which he has been the primary spokesman, was not responsible for the recent violence and rioting that has erupted in past weeks. “We just targeted Bengalis who are terrorizing ethnic Rakhine (Buddhists)” said Wirathu,” We are just preaching to prevent Bengalis entering the country and…
A New Free Press In Burma Juxtaposed With Genocide: The World Will Be Watching
In most nations, citizens do not give second pause to the ever-present flow of daily information. To the rights and privileges that come with a free press. “News”. It is something that perhaps Americans take for granted every day. Gadgets, phones and laptops ablaze. It is constant, what is readily available to us for daily consumption. It exposes all that is there to be exposed; the good, bad, shameful and hideous. In other countries, there is little-to-no information permitted, in fact, laws on the books outright barring the flow of this information. A most cruel (yet easy) way for governments…
Pressure Builds to End Ethnic Violence in Myanmar
(Author’s Note: Over the past month, violence and ethnic cleansing has wracked the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar, also formerly known as Burma, leaving thousands displaced and hundreds, possibly thousands dead. Though conventional media have been largely lax in their coverage of it, the independent media, such as The Progressive Press and Vice, with the help of bold journalists in the field, as well as networks such as EndGenocide.org, Anonymous and SavetheRohingya, have managed to bring greater attention to the plight of the Rohingya, as well as ethnic Muslims throughout Myanmar. We will continue to cover the story as it…
Activists Demand Action As Further Genocide Looms
Activists the world over are voicing outrage and calling for action, regarding a new wave of genocidal violence, which is expected to begin shortly in Myanmar. Anonymous, along with others, are planning another round of demonstrations and “twitterstorms” to demand media and governmental attention be drawn to the atrocities, which have thus far gone largely unreported by mainstream Western media outlets. Panic and terror are gripping Muslims throughout Myanmar today, as rumors and official warnings of further escalations of ethnic violence and genocide circulate throughout the country. Yesterday, military authorities were reported to have ordered the Rohingya village of Paikthe…
Myanmar Muslims Brace for Possible Genocide
Human rights advocates throughout the globe are working overtime today to draw attention to the increasingly dire state of affairs in Myanmar. In recent decades, the centuries old ethnic tensions between the majority Buddhist population and the minority Muslim population (known as the “Rohingya,”) have led to increasingly bloody clashes between the two communities. This month alone over thirty people have died in waves of violence carried out against the Rohingya villages and neighborhoods by Buddhist mobs. Some reports claim that many of the mobs were led by area monks, who have allegedly been publishing anti-Muslim propaganda and inciting acts…
