LIARS & TIGERS & BULL***T, OH MY: THE TROUBLE WITH SYRIA IS….
“……there’s always a belief, a want, a need to believe that when there’s a problem in the world, there is an ‘America’ button we can press to solve it”. – Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) Disclosure: this will meander. Let me preface with a little “I’m a progressive” and a lot of “I support the President” with a dash of “most of the time” sprinkled with some “no, I don’t think it’s okay to have innocents gassed by a madman” and just a hint of “……however” – or something like that. I was one of those insane Obama groupies in 2008…
Minding Our P’s and T’s This Memorial Day
In between family, friends, burgers, beers and innings this weekend, we would all do well to take a moment, long or short, verbal or silent, to deeply thank those we honor on Memorial Day. Enhanced thoughts and prayers for our brothers and sisters still serving abroad in our lingering conflicts wouldn’t hurt either. Memorial Day first came into congealed being as Decoration Day in May of 1868 on the order of Civil War Gen. John Logan to sanction a time for observance already informally practiced at various times in the North and South alike. By the end of WWI, the…
Syria: U.S. Media Drops The Ball As They Did Just Before Iraq War
The know-it-all U.S. mainstream media are pushing a black and white narrative of an extremely complex conflict in the Middle East, again. Just as they did prior to the Iraq War, they are following the White House’s story of a “big, bad dictator, killing his own people with chemical weapons”. The reasons for this shortfall of honest reporting vary from incompetence to laziness, but there could also be a more sinister agenda: helping the U.S. government to propagate its plan to either invade or intervene in Syria. After all, Americans will always be more sympathetic to victims who are suffering…
U.S. Sends Millions of Dollars Aid to Syria While Cutting Meals for Poor American Children
The Obama administration is providing $100 million in new Syria aid, U.S. officials said Wednesday, bringing the total U.S. aid to $510 million since the civil war began in that country more than two years ago. I am all for foreign aid, and feel terrible for the innocent displaced people, not only in Syria but all over the world. (Yes, there are others around the world dealing with similar civil wars and displacement, but of course our focus is on the Middle East. I will let you conclude on the reasons.) Common sense begs the question: If we are unable…
Two Presidents: Curious Similarities
You may have seen over the years a long list of coincidences and similarities between the lives and deaths of John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. Here is a link that lists those similarities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln%e2%80%93Kennedy_coincidences_urban_legend All joking aside, there truly are some intriguing similarities between Abe Lincoln and Barack Obama. Both men came from humble beginnings with little money. Both men were born in other states and moved to Illinois. Both became lawyers and practiced law in Illinois. Both Lincoln and Obama served 8 years in the Illinois state legislature. Both men failed to get elected to Congress on their first…
