Al-Qaeda to Announce an Islamic State in Syria, FSA Claims

syria-al-qaida

Al-Qaeda is about to announce an Islamic State in northern Syria, says a senior figure in the Free Syrian Army (FSA), according to a report in Asharq Al-Awsat. Asking to remain anonymous, the source said the time for the announcement was confirmed to be the first day of Eid, at the end of Ramadan which is August 7, 2013. The report continues that the source claimed implementation of this plan started with the killing of FSA commander Kamal Hamami, Fadi El-Qash and his brother last week, as reported by Progressive Press. More assassinations of the FSA officers and key figures…

Also a Supreme Military Council member, Hamami was meeting with members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) , FSA spokesman Qassem Saadeddine informed Reuters. Spokesman added that ISIL, an Al Qaeda affiliate in Syria, has threatened to kill all of the group’s senior commanders. Syria: U.S. Media Drops The Ball As They Did Just Before Iraq War

Syria-Jabhat-al-Nusra-600x337

The know-it-all U.S. mainstream media are pushing a black and white narrative of an extremely complex conflict in the Middle East, again. Just as they did prior to the Iraq War, they are following the White House’s story of a “big, bad dictator, killing his own people with chemical weapons”. The reasons for this shortfall of honest reporting vary from incompetence to laziness, but there could also be a more sinister agenda: helping the U.S. government to propagate its plan to either invade or intervene in Syria. After all, Americans will always be more sympathetic to victims who are suffering…

Is it Religion or is it a Blowback of U.S. Foreign Policy?

The Washington Post reports that the second suspect in the Boston bombing, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has told interrogators that the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan motivated him and his brother to carry out the attack that killed three and injured more than 260 people. The report comes one day after U.S. officials told the Associated Press that it was the religious beliefs of Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan that fueled their alleged plot. So, is it religion or is it a blowback of US foreign policy? When we read through the manifestos of the different groups U.S.A classifies…

FBI Arrests 18-year-old US Citizen Headed for Syria to Join Jabhat al Nusra

According to the report in The New Zealand Herald, a U.S. citizen has been arrested by the FBI at the Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Saturday after months of surveillance by the agency, allegedly planning to engage in terrorism in Syria. A statement issued by the FBI said there was no connection between this arrest and the recent Boston Marathon bombings. Abdella Ahmad Tounisi, 18, was being monitored by the agency since his friend was arrested in September after a botched attempt to detonate a bomb outside a Chicago bar. The suspect had planned to link up with the Jabhat…

Toothless International Arms Trade Treaty

DSC_0006

On April 2nd 2013, The United Nations General Assembly approved the first global arms trade treaty with 154 votes in favor, 3 against and 23 abstentions. The overwhelming approval comes one week after Iran, Syria and North Korea prevented a treaty-drafting conference at U.N. headquarters from reaching the required consensus to adopt the treaty. These same countries were the sole votes against the treaty last Tuesday. The text of this treaty carries the purpose of regulating the international trade in conventional arms. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon praised the treaty as a powerful new tool in preventing grave human rights abuses and…
